# search\_entities\_fuzzy — Search entities (fuzzy)

## What it does

Resolve a possibly-misspelled name to ranked candidate graph nodes with edit-distance (fuzzy) tolerance over the org's ontology object names.

**When to use:** the user's term may be a typo or approximate spelling ("medulloblstoma", "fibroblst"); a fulltext search returned nothing and you suspect a spelling variant — narrow with dbLabel.

**When NOT to use:** the spelling is trustworthy — prefer search\_entities\_fulltext (tighter, higher precision); you already have a uuid — use get\_entity.

**Parameters:**

* `query` — the (possibly misspelled) name to resolve, e.g. "medulloblstoma".
* `dbLabel` — optional graph label to narrow to (e.g. "Disease").
* `limit` — max candidates to return (optional; default 10, max 50). `total` still reports all hits.
* `offset` — page offset into the ranked hits (optional; default 0). Increase by `limit` to page through a large `total`.

**Returns:** An object { candidates, total, returnedCount, offset, truncated }. `total` is the full hit count; `candidates` are in relevance order, each { uuid, displayName, dbLabels } (uuid is the drill handle for get\_entity / get\_entity\_connections / find\_paths). `offset` echoes the page you requested — to page through a large `total`, re-call with `offset` increased by `limit` while `offset + returnedCount < total`. Narrow with `dbLabel`, or refine the query, when `total` is large.
